About the DAI
Founded in 2006, The Doula Association of Ireland (DAI) is a community of professional Birth and Postpartum doulas which promotes, develops and supports the doula profession in Ireland.
We are a not-for-profit membership organisation that is bound by a common Code of Ethics and run by a voluntary Management Committee. Our activities include providing members with opportunities for continuing professional development, offering mentorship, developing relationships within maternity services, and engaging with our local communities.
Birth and Postpartum doulas are professionals trained in the needs of the family during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. They provide non-judgmental emotional support, evidence-based, up-to-date information, and practical, physical support. Doulas do not provide medical care, perform clinical tasks and, although they may facilitate communication and advocacy, they never speak to care providers on behalf of a client.
If you have questions regarding the process of hiring a doula, becoming a doula, or joining our professional community, we are positive our website can successfully assist you in doing so. However, if you feel you need more guidance or if you just would like to get in touch with us, click here. We are thrilled to hear from you!
Our Mission
The DAI strives to see a community in which doulas are acknowledged as valuable members of the maternity care team whose sole purpose is to help ensure their clients’ emotional and physical comfort needs are met. All new and expectant families would have access to reliable information, relevant resources, and doula support.
